SEGNET PROVIDES FREE INTERIM ACCESS TO BROADBAND ORPHANS
Again sets gold standard for regional ISP crisis management
Enfield, New Hampshire - January 25, 2001 - segNET
Technologies, Inc., New England's premier provider of digital
communications solutions, today announced the next escalation
of its rescue plan for orphaned Vitts and other stranded customers
of recently defunct broadband service providers.
Effective immediately, segNET.com is providing free
statewide dial-up access for all new clients emigrating from Vitts
and other failed communications providers. The intention of this
move is to ensure that no New England business or municipality
will be without mission critical Internet applications such as
email and other vital services on February 28th when Vitts turns
down its network.
When interviewed on Wednesday, segNET Chief Technology
Officer Steve Goldsmith stated, "Vitts will place thousands of
customers out of service on or before February 28th and Verizon
is quoting 45- 60 day lead times on some types of high speed circuit
installations. Unless immediate action is taken many of these
customers will have no service next month."
"Unlike most other providers in the region, segNET's
lead time for provisioning point-to-point T1 service is as short
as 14 days. However, even our exemplary install intervals will
be tested as the Verizon order processing system gets swamped,"
Goldsmith added.
"We strongly recommend that customers demand and
check references from service providers or they risk moving to
somebody that can over-promise and under-deliver. Our infrastructure
and provisioning has been tested and successful for years and
we believe that we can execute a migration strategy faster and
better than any other provider in this market."
segNET will provide free statewide dialup access
to all new accounts pending installs with the Company. We will
provide DNS hosting and email service as well for all impacted
companies so that there will be no disruption in their mission
critical services as a result of the recent network shutdowns
throughout New England. Customers are advised to complete the
emergency handling request form at www.segNET.com.
"This website has been accepting over 240 emergency connectivity
requests per day," said segNET operations manager Adam Strohl.
"As for our network capacity, we run at about 20% capacity even
at peak load. There's plenty of room for the digitally homeless."
